Summary of Gardening 2020

This year has not been the best for the garden.
Despite all the extra time I had to tend to the garden when working from my home office, it was no way to save it from the harshe climate we encountered.
Though the majority of the garden survived strong gusts of wind and heavy downpour of both rain and hail the temparature has been too unreliable.

I think this resulted in some of the plants not getting the right amount of time in each stage of their growth.
But problems aside, let’s look at the results…

Physalis berries

Bell peppers

Melons

Leeks

Tomatoes

Raspberries

As you can probably tell, they didn’t exactly produce any award-winning fruits. And was in fact, looking rather pale and wilted by the end.
But I managed to harvest enough produce overall for me to feel like the entire year of efforts did not go down the drain at the very least.

A short summary of my expectations

The watermelons wilted and I had the choice to try what there or throw it. And to be fair, they made it further than I expected from the start. And they managed to make tiny melons which tasted just like expected.

Tomatoes took much longer than I expected to grow and change color. Could be that this type of beefy tomato is just different from the ones I previously grew. But all in all, I managed to make sause for several pasta dinners.

Leeks was potentially planted a bit too close. They did not grow nearly as much as expected.

Potatoes grew just as expected, and they were featured in a very nice vegetable soup together with the leek and carrots.

Physalis started blooming very late I don’t know enough about these, so I don’t have a clue if this was something I did wrong or if it was just the weather.

Onions did not grow a whole lot, I think this was due to lack of many days with sharp sun.

I brought a lot of the produce inside for ripening due to the temperature dropping fast towards automn.
That part worked out great at least. Seems like I have to cross my fingers for some better sun next season.
