This is a series of simple game concepts which tells a Christmas story of me and some friends for our YouTube channel.
For context, each year we made a calendar like this for the "Advent" time. And in 2016, I decided to try and make it in game format by myself insteath, as this seemed like an interesting challenge. I will upload it here for safe-keeping and memories.
3 Days into the project and I already regret my decision! I severely underestimated how demanding it would be to think about interesting gameplay concepts. I ended up with an avrage of around 4 hours available each day to make a game. And if a normal game jam is not difficult enough, making 24 games will really test your knowledge and productivity!
Here are some of the tasks that goes into making a game:
- Think of the concept (what the player should do and experience)
- Implement all components (player controls, object behaviours, etc.)
- Assign final assets (Art, sounds, text, etc.)
On top of this I had to keep in mind the overall connection and story leading between all the unique games per day.
You can play the game below. But keep in mind that levels unlock based on date.
